Media

At Sparky Do Dah, we have never actively sought media attention or publicity opportunities. In truth, we have been so busy working, and have such supportive clients offering regular work; there has not been a great need to promote our Event Entertaiment to attract new clients.

But a few opportunities have come our way, of which I have included some of those below.

Ipswich Youth Sustainability Summit | Costa

I provide School Incursions throughout South East Queensland. They are always tailored for the specific event and desired outcomes and we chose event activities to suit. I have twice attended the Ipswich Youth Sustainability Summit to create an active space and teach the children about repurposing.

Chatting with Costa about Re-Purposing Materials

I was recently involved with the Inaugural Ipswich Youth Sustainability Summit, a brilliant initiative of Ipswich City Council. The special guests and workshops were geared so students could understand, discuss and develop sustainability projects, innovations and ideas identified as important within their community. Discussions covered; Reducing the impact of litter, Growing your own food, the Benefits of resource and waste sustainability and Composting and Worms. Students walked away from the summit feeling empowered to make a positive difference at home and school. I ran play-based sessions to demonstrate the practical applications of re-purposing materials – and the multitude of benefits that brings. I was lucky enough to have a chat with Costa Georgiadis Official who ran through some of my gear. Sparky Do Dah | Nature Play QLD

MyGC – Good Morning Gold Coast

To help promote the City of Gold Coast Active & Healthy Spring School Holiday Program, Cam Jackson of MyGC came to play at my Pop-Up Playground.

Sparky’s Carnival at the NightQuarter

For a short time I was involved with the NightQuarter Markets. I was responsible for the children’s area with this video captured not long after opening night.

Eats and Beats for Logan City Council

For several years I have created Pop-Up Playgrounds at Logan Council’s monthly Eats and Beats events. It is a celebration of food trucks, music, and family connection at various locations around the City.

Gold Coast Sun Newspaper

Cover of Gold Coast Sun Newspaper The greatest exposure to date was landing the front cover of both the North and South editions of the Gold Coast Sun newspaper. They used it to promote Sparky’s Carnival – Superheroes Unleashed!

Superheroes were very popular at the time, with the release of a new ride at Movie World and a new movie at the Cinema. I had planned and scheduled the theme of the event 6 months previously so it was a very lucky break.

When journalist Andrew Potts called me, I was thrilled to think I was getting a small article tucked away in the ‘What’s On’ guide. When mum called to tell me I was on the front cover, I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face for a week! The support article inside the paper gave full details on the event, and my intentions for the Creative Arts Carnival series I had created.

Not only was it a tremendous boost to numbers at that event, it boosted my profile as event organiser.

Haven for Families

Haven magazine dedicated a double page spread to Nature Play, which included photos from my previous Natural Adventures and an opinion piece from me about how much things had changed for children in one short generation. It was a real thrill to be published in this magazine, sharing my thoughts from my childhood and how I’ve seen things change now that I’m an adult.

Blank Magazine

Blank Magazine is the Coast’s leading independent cultural voice, and they included a feature on Sparky Do Dah which covered Sparky’s Carnival, my Pop-Up Playgrounds and my Natural Adventures.

Sparky’s Natural Adventures

I was invited by the ‘Kids Go Wild!‘ program within Ipswich City Council to offer my Natural Adventures at Queens Park. Cadence and her father Daniel joined me for several adventures, creating 2 great videos of her experiences.

ABC Radio | Gold Coast

Sparky Do Dah on ABC Radio

Damien Larkins, a digital content producer on ABC Gold Coast loved the concept of my Natural Adventures so much he said; “One man is on a mission to remove the cotton wool surrounding modern-day kids and get them out from behind their computer screens into the great outdoors.”

Sparky in the Gold Coast Hinterlander

The Gold Coast Hinterlander

I got some sweet love from the Gold Coast Hinterlander, having run several Natural Adventures at Syd Duncan Park in Lower Beechmont during the School Holidays. Such a beautiful part of the world!

The local action committee were looking for innovative ways to develop and utilize the park with Nature Play in mind, knowing the many benefits that are derived from kids getting active and healthy in a natural environment.

Juice FM

Sparky on Juice FM Radio

In the lead up to Sparky’s Carnival #4 – Superheroes Unleashed, I got a call from Adam from Juice FM to ask me what it was all about.

Sparky’s Carnival #1 Promotional Video

This is where it all began! The first Sparky’s Carnival was held at the Tallebudgera Valley Community Hall… and it seems like so long ago! Things have definitely progressed a lot from here; but I was really happy with this first attempt at a carnival – and the feedback was great.
