2012 Events
22 July 2012 – Sparky’s Carnival #1
Set in the beautiful Tallebudgera Valley, the community hall and adjoining parklands came alive for our first ever adventure. It was a creative arts carnival that celebrated community connections, with a day full of magical activities and performances.
23 September 2012 – Sparky’s Carnival #2
Having learnt lots of lessons from our first event, we held Carnival #2 at the Varsity Lakes Community Hall and adjoining Community Gardens. We offered a greater number of activities and performances, creating a memorable day for those in attendance.
15 December 2012 – Sparky’s Carnival #3
Gold Coast City Council’s Active and Healthy division caught wind of what we had achieved and promoted us as the launch event of the Summer School Holiday Program. Sparky’s Carnival #3 took the concept and project from strength to strength.

11 August 2013 – Sparky’s Carnival #4 – Superheroes Unleashed!
This was our first ‘themed’ carnival, and saw over 400 little superheroes take over the Albert Waterways Community hall for a day of Super-Fun! I was on the front page of the Gold Coast Bulletin in the lead up, with a great story about the unique event we had created.

The Upper Coomera Community Centre was transformed into a ghastly hall of Halloween delights for a memorable interactive, hands-on, participation based creative arts carnival.

Parklake came alive for an enjoyable afternoon for the whole family with our range of Event Entertainment for the whole family. There were live local bands, a jumping castle, rock climbing wall and me with all the free children’s activities.

This was an amazing pop-up playground at the Pacific Pines Community Hub. A ghost town 10 minutes before the start, it was a thriving hive of activity minutes later. A lot of new faces were amazed at my activities, and thankful the GCCC put on such great free events in the suburbs.
13 July 2014 – Zest Festival – Kurrawa Park in Broadbeach
The Active & Healthy Alliance Gold Coast launched the inaugural ZEST Festival; a celebration of our City’s enviable active & healthy lifestyle. ZEST aim’s to showcase the range of Gold Coast fitness, sport, recreation, health and wellness businesses and organisations for residents and visitors.
20 July 2014 – G:Link Opening at Victoria Park in Broadbeach
The Broadbeach Alliance created an amazing space in Victoria Park, with the Art and Craft Market and lots of kids activities. I was chuffed to be there to work with families having a fun day out, after their first free trip on the light rail.

This family gathering on the Tweed River was a ‘Seafood, Wine & Music’ festival put on to showcase the wonderful Tweed Marina area, featuring the great venues close by… and me.

Entertaining the Jazz Festival crowds as they meandered through the Arts & Craft Markets.

I teamed up with Aspiral Design (Tie Dye), offering a free Pop-Up Playground at the Pacific Pines Community Hub. Another amazing turnout thanks to Active and Healthy, this time, with Tie Dye as well … Woo Hoo!
28 September 2014 – The Village Markets
The grown-ups didn’t get to have all of the fun … To compliment TVM ‘Rack Sale’, I took my fancy dress for the kids.

Gold Coast Permaculture opened their latest community garden in Carrara, with dignitaries, workshops, and me looking after the kidlets.
18 October 2014 – FSG Family Fun Day
The Pacific Pines Community Hub was buzzing to performances from local community groups, with my Pop-Up playground keeping the little ones busy.
31 October 2014 – Off the Streets Halloween Event
Another fantastic event by My Ormeau where over 2,500 people had a safe Halloween with many tricks and treats. They jumped and danced and got photos with their favourite characters, as well as enjoying a selection of my games and activities, all before a firework spectacular to end the evening.
2 November 2014 – Broadbeach Art and Craft on the Coast Markets
This was another fun morning at Kurrawa park in Broadbeach. I was set up in front of the sweet sounds of Matty Rogers which made a fun little party precinct for parents to chill and kids to play.
23 November 2014 – Family Wellness and Lifestyle Expo
The Family Wellness and Lifestyle Expo is the Gold Coast’s largest showcase of natural health, wellness, alternative medicine and green living lifestyles.
7 December 2014 – Carols Under the Stars – CBUS Super Stadium Robina
This was massive with free kids activities (including Me), Animal Nursery, Face Painting, Live Entertainment, Roving Characters, Rainbow Teddies, Santa and City of Gold Coast Fireworks Spectacular.

Picnic in your Patch #1 celebrates our sense of community through the much-loved Aussie picnic. There will be large scale dance lessons, Fish-out-of-Water, the Ants, an entourage of vintage caravans, bubbles, The Lost Treasure of the Cambus Wallace (children’s adventure workshop) as well as a ‘crafternoon’, sharing of stories, great tunes and circus which all create the ultimate picnic program… and Me – throwing my arms in the air and waving them like I care!
14 March 2015 – Bleach* Festival – Picnic in your Patch #2 at Mudgeeraba
Discover the green behind the gold as the Bleach* Festival brings live music and family fun to this great park. Fish-out-of-Water will meander through the park, bringing joy and laughter to all in its wondrous wake. Polyglot Theatre’s Ants will set up their nest and kids are invited to help them complete their next mission. There will be Top Secret Storytellers Clubhouse, an interactive performance experience for children and families developed by the State Library of Queensland and ME… doing ‘Sparky’ things!
22 March 2015 – Bleach* Festival – Picnic in your Patch #3 at Bundall
Immersed in the spirit of Gold Coast fun-in-the-sun, the third and final Bleach* Picnic in your Patch is a big fat feast of entertainment for all ages, with surf art activities, a crafternoon, a day-long program of live music, kids’ theatre, and the jaw-dropping stars of Bleach*, Fish-out-of-Water and the Ants. Big bubbles, circus workshops and The Lost Treasure of the Cambus Wallace.
29 March 2015 – Burleigh Art and Craft on the Coast Markets
Most things at the markets cost money, but not my Pop-Up Playgrounds! Walk on stilts, play coyts, hula hoop, have tiger-feet races and so much more.
29 March 2015 – Tugun Community Day
The Tugun Neighbourhood Day offered free family fun allowing patrons to meet others in the community and celebrate this amazing city we get to call home.
29 March 2015 – Northern Gold Coast Neighbour Day
Come along to the Upper Coomera Community Centre with family and friends and enjoy an afternoon of free fun and entertainment. There will be live music, a rock wall, an obstacle course, the GC Suns, craft, tie Dye, a jumping castle, a photo booth, face painting and ME!

We wrapped up the school holidays with a coastal adventure. There was sand between toes, smelly old jelly fish, and exploration of where the land meets the sea.

We explored the rock pools, the rainforest, and climbed a mountain… all before lunch! This was an amazing adventure with the most varied habitat of all the adventures I run.

15 August 2015 – Discovery in the Gardens
Held as part of the Gold Coast Science and Technology Festival, Discovery in the Gardens brought together many of the Gold Coast’s leading nature-based organisation for a day of Discovery.
6 September 2015 – Father’s Day Carnival
An afternoon of family fun at the Currumbin Eco Village. There was a variety of activities aimed at encouraging family participation. This was a free community event brought to you by Fight Like a Pro and Better Men. Making better men, fathers, leaders, husbands, sons and brothers in our community.
7 September 2015 – Child Protection Week
Burleigh Memorial park was turned into a support hub for the Coast’s many service providers that nurture and support our children.
12 September 2015 – Bonogin Valley Community Spring Fair
This was a great community fair with a relaxing country feel. Stall holders were out in force, offering plenty of wares, information and entertainment to thrill all attendees. Juzzy Smith put on some great shows, as well as the acts on the main stage. Markets, Music and Fun in Davenport Park. I was pleased to offer a free Pop-Up Playground in this great celebration of a special Gold Coast community.
24 September 2015 – Paradise Point Natural Adventure
This adventure was perfect for kids that like the feel of sand between their toes and flipping rocks looking for crabs. We roamed through the open parklands before exploring the coastal environment this amazing park provides.
25 September 2015 – Burleigh Heads Natural Adventure
This adventure went to the lookout at the top of Burleigh Heads National Park, and is the longest walk of all the adventures I lead. I haven’t lost any kids yet though! From the coastal park, and rock pools, we climb through the sub-tropical rainforest playing games and learning as we go.
26 September 2015 – Gold Coast Festival of Kites
The Gold Coast Festival of Kites had hubs at Kirra, Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise. It featuring major kite displays and workshops, a world record attempt, and a competitive kite surfing race from the Spit to Coolangatta. I was at Kirra with a Pop-Up Playground offering Free Fun for the whole family.
27 September 2015 – Celebrate Gold Coast at Nerang Country Paradise Parklands
Celebrate Gold Coast is a free family event that provides an opportunity for our community to celebrate everything that is quintessentially Gold Coast – our culture, lifestyle, food and sense of fun. The theme of the 2015 event was to celebrate the “green behind the gold” by embracing the beauty of the hinterland.

The Fifth Avenue streetscape became the setting for a huge assortment of al fresco dining and free line-up of upbeat music and entertainment. The buildings, the balconies and of course the bitumen were the stage for a good ol’ fashioned boogie-woogie bash.

Currumbin RSL provides the backdrop for an eclectic mix of entertainment; Including music, theatre, a suitcase rummage, outdoor library lounge and my Pop-Up Playground.

Nature Play QLD held the ‘Reviving Neighbourhood Nature Play Community Forums’ with special guests, international play experts, David Bond and Tim Gill. We discussed how our community needs to change to protect our children’s right to play.

30 April 2016 – Karawatha Forest Natural Adventure
This was my first ever Natural Adventure for Brisbane City Council; at the totally amazing Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre. The newly opened centre allows you to immerse yourself in a variety of interactive displays and exhibits. Then people came outside to enjoy the parklands and surrounding natural habitat with a series of activities and games designed to connect children to the elements.
